Purpose – This Convention serves our culturally diverse congregations as we fulfill The Great Commandment and The Great Commission.
The Great Commandment
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these" Mark 12:30-31 (NIV).
The Great Commission
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV).
Provide training and support for pastors, staff and lay leaders.
Coordinate denominational resources and cooperative efforts of churches and associations to start new congregations.
Develop a worldview that will provide support for local, state, national and international missions.
Provide consultation, vision and networking to facilitate church growth.
Provide research and channels of information to keep the Convention's diverse constituency involved and the general public informed about Baptist work.
Authority of Scripture – II Timothy 3:16-17
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
World Evangelism – Matthew 28:19-20
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Practical Love – Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Fruitfulness (for the glory of God) – John 15:16
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit -- fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."
Cooperation That Affirms Diversity – I Corinthians 12:13
"For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body -- whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free -- and we were all given the one Spirit to drink."
Integrity in Relationships – Psalm 1
"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."
Urgency in Light of the Imminent Return of Christ – Revelation 22:12
"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done."
Autonomy of the Local Church – Matthew 16:18-19
"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" Matthew 16:18-19.
"And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy" Colossians 1:18.
