Perspective - November 2007

The annual meeting of California Southern Baptist Convention is scheduled for Nov. 13-14 in West Sacramento. It is the 67th gathering of our Convention. There will be music, reports, business discussions and messages. I also pray there will be a deep sense of commitment to share Christ with a lost world, beginning here in California.

Over the years I have attended my share of convention annual meetings. Often it is a time of friendship renewal, inspiration to mission service and great fellowship. From conversations I have had with CSBC leaders of all generations, the desire is for our annual meeting to be one of celebrating what God is doing in the lives of our churches, associations and state convention.

Last year the California Southern Baptist, on its December cover, showed messengers and guests on their knees praying for the lost people in our state. I pray we will continue to stay focused on "Reaching the World in California" because that is what it is all about.

The beauty of being a Baptist is that we rally around our common theological beliefs and doctrines while not being bound to similar methodologies to reach those around us.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church: " ... I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." That is one of my life verses. I encourage California Southern Baptists to be personal witnesses in every circumstance.

I most often find myself witnessing while traveling. Recently I was flying home from an engagement and while waiting for my flight, I decided to grab a bite to eat. What an experience! I met three people - Larry, Mrs. Zimmerman, and a young man whose name, I must confess, I've forgotten. During the course of my quick meal, I encouraged each of these to follow Christ and gave each my business card.

Many times I find myself exhausted and frustrated, but God places people in my path who need a word from Him. I pray you find yourself witnessing to people like Larry and Mrs. Zimmerman who are waiting for us to extend hope through Jesus Christ.

Please come to West Sacramento "on fire for Jesus" as together we seek to conduct our annual business in Christian love and celebrate what God is doing through and among California Southern Baptists.
