International Critical Incident Stress Foundation’s basic CISM course,“CISM: Individual Crisis Intervention and Peer Support.”
Crisis intervention is NOT psychotherapy, rather it is a specialized acute emergency intervention which requires specialized training. As physical first-aid is to surgery, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Thus, crisis intervention is sometimes called "emotional first-aid." Crisis interventions are typically done individually (one-on-one) or in groups. This program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual intervention.
This course is a “must” for anyone who serves in disaster relief or crisis response ministry. For Disaster Relief Chaplains who are seeking denominational endorsement, this course may be counted as one of the three required courses.
This is the same course presented in May 2007 at Fresno. This is a different course from the one presented December 2007 at Visalia.
The cost is $45 if paid by January 18 and $50 after January 18.
