CHINO HILLS – Michael Henson loves people.
“I feel that God has uniquely blessed me with the passion that I have for starting new churches,” Henson said.
He is part of the California Southern Baptist Convention Church Starting Group and, although he ministers with the people of the Inland Empire and High Desert Baptist Associations, Michael has a heart for all Californians.
What does he do when he is not planting churches?
“On Saturday mornings we do ‘adopt-a-block’ evangelism,” Michael said. “We ministered in a Chino Hills trailer park one day. We went from trailer to trailer and rang doorbells. We prayed with people, and some of those people have come forth and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. Now they are in church.”
Michael’s favorite Bible verse says it all for him; it is the reason he is who he is, and the reason he does what he does: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Christ touched Michael as a teenager in Orlando, Florida. He and his wife, Brenda, currently live in Chino Hills and have been married for 35 years; they have two adult children, a son and a daughter. Michael and Brenda are members of Christ The Cornerstone Community Church in Chino.
He shared that he recently was in the hospital for four months. He had a “total left knee replacement and then it got infected and I developed hematomas,” he said. “I am doing as well as can be expected after the numerous surgeries that I had. I use a walker to get around at this time, and I have a brace on my leg. But I’m thankful to be home.”
“While in the hospital,” Michael said, “I managed to study the Scriptures, spend quality time with my Lord, start one church in the Inland Empire, as well as use the telephone to discuss the potential for new church starts.”
Michael’s message to California Southern Baptists:
“Get out and plant churches! We have lots of church members out there who are not being obedient to the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8. They are not going out to reach the lost for Christ, and I would encourage pastors who have not planted churches to be obedient to His commission.”
