Your church Vacation Bible School offering is an opportunity for the children of your VBS to minister to other children in California this summer!
California Southern Baptist Convention churches are once again being encouraged to designate their 2013 Vacation Bible School offering for "Feeding Those Who Feed Us" ministries.
The offerings will be used to support ministry to migrant children and their families, providing clothing, shoes, school supplies and backpacks to children in California’s state-sponsored migrant centers, home to many farm workers and their families. Food also is provided to the families, some of the poorest in America.
Tom Belew, director for CSBC Vacation Bible School ministries, believes it is a worthy cause for VBS offerings.
"Using the VBS offering for this purpose really is an opportunity for the children attending a local church VBS to minister to other children," he explained.
Charles McClung, CSBC ministry evangelism specialist who works with the Feeding Those ministry, noted the cost of providing clothing, school supplies and backpacks for one of the 28 migrant centers is approximately $5000. By earmarking the VBS offering for Feeding Those, the children of CSBC churches help "provide hope for migrant farm workers and their children in California," McClung said.
Additionally, many sponsoring churches provide VBS for children and an evangelistic rally for adults. In 2012, over 7,000 people participated in Vacation Bible Schools. Through VBS and evangelistic rallies, nearly 1,030 made professions of faith in Christ.
