Perspective - April 2013
Reading has been a life-long passion of mine. I love to read and I attempt to read a book every couple of months. There is so much to learn from others.

I finished a classic by Bill Hybels, "Just Walk Across the Room: Simple Steps Pointing People to Faith." What a simple action - just walking across the room. Oftentimes we are in such a hurry to cross the world, we miss the opportunity to simply cross the room and share Christ.

There is joy in sharing Christ with others. We all have been "sent" as missionaries to reach the world, beginning in our Jerusalem. Are you aware of the "lostness" of your community? Have you thought of how you could impact your community for Christ?

There are many books written about evangelism methodology from which we could learn about witnessing. There's mass evangelism, friendship evangelism, personal evangelism, and the list can go on. I believe there is a pent-up legion of Christ-followers waiting to be released for this very important task. Fear, uncertainty, anxiety and reluctance at times keep us from being the witness God wants us to be. God's Word says we are not given a spirit of fear, but of "power and of love and of a sound mind."

Don't think about "missed" opportunities, because we cannot live in the past. My desire is to pray, share, sit down for a conversation and tell the story of Jesus who came to die for me. His love is available to all.

Recently I was sharing with someone on the phone who said he thought he'd "gone too far," and asked if I thought he'd be "welcome."

"Yes," I answered, because you cannot go so far that the love of God cannot reach you. All of us know people who are hurting or don't feel worthy of God's love. This is when we should share scripture verses such as:

Jeremiah 33:3: Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Matthew 11:28: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

I Peter 5:7: Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Romans 10:9: That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Before the week is over, take time to "cross the room," street, office, etc., and become a living testimony of the grace of God. I will continue to share my faith with others, beginning in my circle of family and friends. Won't you?
