Agenda is a word that has different meanings for different situations.
For a meeting, an agenda is a list or outline of things to be considered or done. There are some who are extremely interested in working through an agenda while others sit back and seemingly dread moving through the agenda. And then there are those who don't seem to care about the business at hand, with seemingly blank looks and expressions on their faces.
Recently after sitting in numerous meetings where the agenda was ignored, tossed aside and not followed, I asked myself, "What is God's agenda for my life and ministry? Am I ignoring God's agenda for my ministry at this time?"
There are agendas which others feel need to be followed. There are personal agendas that individuals seek to impose on others. There are social, religious and political agendas. There are even hidden agendas. But there are no agendas more important than God's agenda for life and ministry.
One of my favorite biblical passages is Isaiah 42:6: "I, the Lord, have called you for a righteous purpose, and will hold you by your hand. I will keep you and make you a covenant for the people and a light to the nations, in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house."
Although it is referencing the coming Messiah's mission, I draw inspiration from it.
God has called me for a specific purpose. God has called you for a specific purpose. And God has called us for a specific purpose. His promise is to hold us by the hand, keep us and guide us to impact the world for Him.
As I daily go about ministry, I have to be very aware of the agendas of others around me. Daily I pray for a double portion of wisdom to know and carry out the task the Father has laid out for me.
I encourage you to look at God's agenda for your life. My prayer is that you will accept the agenda He has outlined for you and that you will follow it so we may be about His business of "Reaching the World in California."
