It’s not a magical box, but it holds special power! It is simply a box to hold treasures that will draw and encourage one to pray specifically. My “Prayer Box” was given to me by a friend to encourage me in a time of need. May I share this idea with you that you might pass it on to one of your special friends to encourage to spend time reflecting on God’s goodness. Following is a letter describing the items to assemble and place in your box, as well as a letter for you to copy and to include in your gift.
Dear Friend,
This box has been especially made for you with love. Each part of the box represents my prayers to carry encouragement to you from the Word of God.
First, the box is painted gold to represent the purity of Christ and the righteousness that we are clothed in.
- Philippians 1:9-11 That your love may abound more and more in Knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ – to the glory and praise of God.
- Philippians 3:9 and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ; the righteousness that comes from God and by faith.
The grapes on the top represent the harvest of fruit that is given and grown in us from the Lord.
- John 15:7-8 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is my Father’s glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
The arrangement of flowers on top around the fruit remind me of the Lord’s provision as spoken by Jesus.
- Luke 12:27-28 Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet, I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith!
Notice the little pieces of china, hidden beneath the flowers and fruit. They represent the tests and trials that have broken up our lives. These tests and trials produce strength, endurance and build our faith.
- Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given.
Not only do the broken pieces of our lives produce fruit, but they are sharp to the touch which signifies how they are our weapons against the enemy. That weapon is our faith. They are hidden so that they do not hurt those loved ones around us, but they never leave because they are what makes-up our character.
- Ephesians 6:16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
I have placed a cross in the box so that there is a constant reminder of what Christ did on Calvary. You will also find a picture of Jesus and a rock in the box. They represent who Jesus is to me.
- Romans 5:8 But God demonstrated His love for us in this; While we were sinners, Christ died for us.
- John 14:6 Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. Nor one comes to the Father except through me.’
- Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Along with these things, you will find some of my favorite verses of God’s promises, that I pray will encourage you. God says to place His Word on the tablet of our heart. May you read them every time you open up the box and remember God’s goodness to you.
- Proverbs 7:13 My son keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and your will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on the tablet of your heart.
The blank paper and pencil are for you to write down your prayer requests. When God answers them, you can write down the answer and the date on the other side. As you look back you can be encouraged by the answers. As you wait on the Lord, know HE WILL ANSWER in His perfect timing and according to His will.
