Uplifting! Idea Notebook...Creative Prayer Comforter
Exercise your group prayer life by tying knots!
- Knots of comfort, compassion and love
- Knots of spiritual well-being for others
- Knots of fruit of the Spirit
- Knots of fellowship; one with another
Advance preparations ahead of prayer time:
- Make small baby size or lap quilts by sewing 2 flannel or cotton fabrics together inside out.
- Turn inside out and finish the edge with stitching ¼ inch from edge.
- Divide quilt and mark for equal placement of ties.
- Using yard or embroidery threads stitch on each mark but leave the strings UNTIED.
- An easy trick is to use continuous thread from one tie to the next across a row and do not cut until you are ready to tie.
- Use a square knot (right over left, left over right) to secure the quilt.
Group prayer comforter suggestions:
- Small groups can break off into separate areas of the room to pray or work together
- Spread out concerns in “prayer packet” over center of comforter
- Prayer should focus on the event or party receiving quilt
- Personal needs of recipient
- Health, safety, wisdom and direction, peace and contentment, etc.
- Country or current event concerns
- For missionary or mission trip leader
- Guest speaker or pastor
- Children’s home, or pregnancy crisis center
- Pray over topics given, plus any more spirit reveals
- Tie knots as prayer is said over concerns in packet
Options for group prayers
- One at a time or all at the same time
- Pray out loud or pray silently
- Tie one knot per prayer concern
- Continuously tie as you pray
- Continue until all knots are tied securely in prayer
