The Souper Bowl of Caring has become an annual tradition in many churches across the country. On or near the Sunday of the Super Bowl football game money is collected in soup pots to help feed hungry and hurting people in local communities. The Souper Bowl of Caring has experienced explosive growth since beginning in 1990 in a South Carolina church. In 2017 over $10 million in cash and food was donated by 6,541 groups and 100% donated to charities in their areas.
This youth-led effort has generated more than $60 million in funds and food since it became a national effort in 1993.
How to participate:
- Register – Churches and youth groups can register and receive a free resource kit to help make the Souper Bowl successful.
- Promote – Announce to the congregation that students will be collecting $1 from each person on or near Super Bowl Sunday.
- Contribute – Collect the funds and send them to a charity of your choice such as Global Hunger Relief through the Southern Baptist Convention.
- Report – Churches are encouraged to report their collections to the Souper Bowl of Caring or call 800-358-7687, to be counted in national totals.
