FRESNO -- California Southern Baptist Convention leaders urge churches to complete the Annual Church Profile (ACP) by filling out the document online or mailing it.
“This is an initiative that directly involves every Southern Baptist church, mission, association, state convention and national agency,” noted Steve Foss, CSBC information technologies specialist.
“By participating, California churches can affect how the SBC allocates its resources by providing more accurate information regarding trends here in the West. It really is a stewardship issue,” Foss explained.
LifeWay notes several reasons why churches should make the effort to complete the ACP. If the church ever needed to secure a building loan, ACP reports can be used to convince loan officers the church can handle the financial encumbrance.
Also, LifeWay returns to state conventions monies from its sale of curriculum materials based on baptisms, resident membership and Bible study and discipleship enrollment. These funds are channeled back toward local congregations through LifeWay-financed training events.
The church also can use ACP reports through the years to monitor trends in growth or decline. Associations and the state convention can use them to assist church planting and church strengthening strategies.
ACP packets are mailed to all CSBC congregations in September; churches that do not receive a packet by Oct. 1 should contact the Convention office. Each packet contains an ACP statistical survey and leadership update.
Here are a few important thoughts to consider when filling in the ACP:
- Use the statistics from a recent 12-month period of your choice.
- If you are not comfortable sharing some of the information requested, don't feel obligated. Instead, mark that question with "n/a."
- If you are not sure of an exact figure, please give your best estimate.
Be assured that information in the ACP will not be shared outside the “Baptist family.”
We are thankful to partner with our congregations as we seek to share Christ with 33 million unchurched people in California. Your church is important, and the information you provide will help us better serve and resource California Southern Baptist congregations.
