Super Sunday: Simultaneous High Attendance Day
This is the day for promoting evangelism through the Sunday School. We are reaching out to all churches in California to join us in a major campaign for the spiritual enrichment of the young people throughout our communities.

High attendance days have been part of Sunday School over the years. In the past, the SBC set a high attendance day and goal. In recent years, churches have been focused on their unique mission field and less emphasis has been given to working toward a goal with other churches.

A few years ago, Dr. Lonnie Dawson, pastor of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, led his church and a few others in the area to set aside a simultaneous high attendance day called “Super Sunday.” Last year several of CSBC associations in the LA and Bay Area joined to help promote the emphasis.

This year Tom Belew, CSBC Sunday School specialist, encourages all CSBC churches with Sunday School ministries to consider being part of this emphasis on July 11 - the second Sunday of the month. The mid-summer date gives churches a chance to stay connected with members while inviting friends, co-workers and neighbors to be part of a Bible study on Sunday when daily schedules are not as busy.

Here is Dr. Dawson’s Invitation:

This is the day for promoting evangelism through the Sunday School. We are reaching out to all churches in California to join us in a major campaign for the spiritual enrichment of the young people throughout our communities.

As I’m sure you already know, we are in the midst of a serious spiritual breakdown in our communities and there is serious need for mass spiritual healing. This healing can only be accomplished through the study of the Word of God. We have designated the second Sunday in July as “Super Sunday” in Sunday Schools throughout the state.

We’re praying that your church would be part of this campaign. If so, would you please inform us of your intentions by assisting us with the following:

  1. To register: Click here to register online or call (310) 324-0644. Fax your registration to (310) 769-1287 include the following information: your name, church name, pastor’s name, address, city, zip, phone and e-mail.
  2. Vigorously promote this campaign from the pulpit.
  3. Set a minimum goal to double your average Sunday School attendance.
  4. Inform us of the growth percentage you accomplished at the end of the campaign.
  5. Place a banner in the front of your church promoting Super Sunday beginning the 1st of June through the second Sunday of July.
  6. Every member is urged to invite five people to be their guest that day.
  7. Have special incentives for members who bring the most people.
  8. Provide adequate space for Sunday School enlargement.
  9. Maintain a roster of attendees that may be used for follow-up.
  10. Create a special celebration that gives attention to your success.

A special training session for pastor’s and Sunday School leaders will take place at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 9 a.m. You will be given special how-to-information that will assure a great success on Super Sunday, July 11, 2010.

Yours in Kingdom Building,
Dr. Lonnie Dawson, Pastor
New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Los Angeles

If you register online, the week prior to Super Sunday you will receive an e-mail link for reporting Super Sunday results.
